POLYMER COATED BULLETS
What are Polymer Coated Bullets?
Badman Polymer Coated Bullets are our high quality hard cast lead bullets encapsulated with a 2 layer baked on durable Polymer Coating finish. The coating moecularly bonds to the lead, encasing the entire projectile in a protective shell that is self lubricating. The proprietary coating contains no PTFE or Moly. They are similar to plated bullets but without the copper finish. Plated bullets are made from soft extruded lead that is swaged into a core then coated with copper. Our Polymer coated bullets are made from our hard cast lead (16 BHN) and coated with the high quality Polymer finish. Badman Polymer Coated Bullets will stand up to higher pressure loads compared to the soft core plated bullets.
What brand of Polymer coating do you use?
We use the best one on the market... Hi-Tek Heat Set Supercoat
What version of Hi-Tek Polymer Coating do you use?
We use the latest generation with resin and the 2-Extreme Catalyst
What are the advantages of shooting Badman Polymer Coated Bullets?
Let's compare the difference between Polymer and plated bullets.
* Plated bullets have a soft core (8-10 BHN) with a strong copper outer finish. They perform well at mid velocities or higher end lead velocities but can be rather expensive to shoot and can wear your barrel out faster. Plated bullets also have speed restrictions of less than 1,500 fps.
* Badman Polymer Coated Bullets have a strong lead core (16 BHN) with a durable 2 layer baked on Polymer coating finish. They perform extremely well from low to high velocities. We have personally tested our .452 diameter 250 Grain RNFP bullet to 1,800 fps with great results. Compared to plated or jacketed bullets they are less expensive, as good as or better and they don't foul your barrel.
How fast can I shoot the Badman Polymer Coated Bullets?
As fast as you can pull the trigger. LOL Seriously though, these bullets can be pushed out to 2,200 fps with great results as long as they are loaded properly.
Do the bullets smoke when being fired?
No. You will notice a dramatic reduction in smoke compared to standard lubed bullets as there is no wax used in the making of this bullet. The Polymer is the lubricant. Please Note: You may still experience some smoke when shooting these as this comes from the powder you may be using. Some powders smoke more than others. Check out this Video demonstrating the durability of our Polymer coating under extreme heat.
Can I use the polymer coated bullets with real Black Powder?
No... the polymer is not intended to be used with real BP... but they will work with black powder substitutes.
Can I shoot these in a polygonal rifled barrel?
Our bullets perform the same as a plated or jacketed bullet and work well in polygonal rifling leaving the barrels clean.
Do I need a gas check with our bullets?
No. The polymer coating is very durable and can withstand high pressures without compromising performance.
Do I need to apply wax lube to them before loading?
No. The Polymer coating is the lube. Nothing else is required to load them.
Can the Polymer coated bullets be used in an Indoor Range?
We say YES as there is no exposed lead. Check with your local range to verify. They would have the final say.
Are the Badman Polymer Coated Bullets legal for SASS, aka Cowboy Action Shooting?
Simple answer, YES.
* From the SASS Shooters Handbook, Version 21.6, Page 12 - Revolver and rifle ammunition may NOT be jacketed, semi-jacketed, plated, gas checked or copper washed. It must be all lead. Moly disulfide, POLYMER COATED bullets or equivalent ARE acceptable.
Reference: SASS Handbooks & Rules
Can I shoot steel targets with Polymer coated bullets?
YES. In fact, the Polymer Coated Bullets are safer to use on steel than plated or jacketed as the bounce back effect is dramatically less. The Polymer bullets will deform and splatter when they come in contact with the steel target. Always wear eye and ear protection and follow safety precautions when shooting steel targets.
How is the Polymer coating applied?
After the bullets are cast we apply a coat of Polymer to the bullets and then bake them in a commercial oven at 400 degrees. After they cool we apply a SECOND coat and bake them again.
Does the Polymer Coating add size to the bullet?
NO. The bullets are sized AFTER the Polymer Coating is applied so you end up with a properly sized bullet.
Can I use the Polymer Coated bullets in an open gun?
Yes. Our Polymer Coated Bullets will work with major power factors with great results leaving no residue in the comp ports or muzzle brakes.
How do I load Polymer Coated Bullets?
Polymer coated bullets can be loaded the same as lead or plated bullets. Always start lower and work your way up to your desired velocity and pressures.
Use a decent bell before seating the bullet. You don't want to shave off the Polymer when seating it. This is very important to prevent leading.
A light taper crimp of .003" or standard roll crimp is all that is needed. You don't want to puncture the coating as this can result in poor accuracy and/or key hole issues.
Case gauge or chamber test the finished product before using.
Most of this is just common sense.
HARD CAST LEAD BULLETS
What is the hardness of Badman Hard Cast Lead Bullets?
Our bullets have a BHN of 16
What kind of lube (wax) do you use on your bullets?
We proudly use Thompson Bullet Lube specially formulated for our bullets. Our lube contains 5 different high quality paraffin's and is better at lubricating than the hard lube used by many commercial casters. This formula allows our bullets to shoot extremely well (under 1,500 fps and/or 21,000 psi) with minimal to mostly no leading depending on your barrel and loading technique.
Can I use the Lubed bullets with real Black Powder?
Yes...Our lubed bullets can be used with black powder loads in most applications. Proper black powder loading and swabbing of barrels is still highly recommended.
Do your bullets have gas checks?
No. They are not designed to accept a gas check.
How fast can I shoot Badman Hard Cast Lead Bullets?
Our hard cast bullets can be shot up to 1,500 fps and/or 21,000 psi. Whichever comes first. If you are wanting to go faster or hotter check out our Polymer Coated Bullets.
Are the Badman Hard Cast Bullets sized and lubed?
Yes, just load them and shoot them.
Do you offer sample packs?
Yes, You can purchase sample packs from any of the product pages.
